This atricle teachs you a technique that will help you understand the difference between Present Perfect and Simple Past Tense.
Starting with the Present Perfect Tense:-
》We use the present perfect tense to talk about finished and unfinished actions.
This means, those sentences which are telling that any work has been completed or not completed while speaking.
》Hence, I have eaten food. The work has been completed. I have sent you the reports.
》He has given me my money back. He has answered my call. I have sent you images on Whatsapp. Unfinished- You haven't sent me images on WhatsApp yet. He hasn't come home yet. He hasn't returned my money yet. He hasn't told me anything yet.
To construct sentences with has/have along with Verb's 3rd form. Second, you would use this tense to talk about recently completed actions. This means those works which have been completed just recently. As I came to you and I told you that I have told her everything. If we do not tie this thing in time, then it will be simple past tense, maybe I told her everything a year ago or had told her four months ago. If I do not tie this thing with time, I told him\her everything.
But if you want to tie it to time and tell that this work has been done just recently. It happened a couple days ago or this morning or yesterday evening. So I will make it with the Present perfect tense.
I have told him everything. There is a fine difference in both. when did he leave one year ago? ten years ago? But if we want to tie it with time and tell that it has happened recently, then you will do it in Present Perfect Tense here.
》You have become fat. 》He has got his job. In the present time when we are telling the result. 》I have bought a new car. 》He has made something very good for me to eat. 》He has got hurt. 》He has had a minor accident.
So we will use these sentences to give information to others. Like we are at home and we want to tell someone that this has happened, that has happened. We will use this tense to show the present results. And last most interesting...
When you tell your life experiences or ask others for their experiences, you still need this present perfect tense. For example, have you ever been abroad?Have you ever thought about this? Have you ever eaten this? Have you ever tried this? I've never been there.
He has emailed me. He has cheated me. He's gone. What kind of words is coming? Like- Some work has been completed.
She has become fat. He has stolen the money. Mom has sent this for you. I have forwarded all WhatsApp messages to him.
Whether any work has been done or not done in the present time. This is the identity of Present Perfect Tense. Now let's understand its rules.
Rules:- It has main 2 rules- Has and Have . Has should be used with singular subjects only. Singular Subjects- He, She, It, or any Name.
》Has your brother arrived? Don't use × Have your brother arrived?
There is a very small grammatical error. Maybe you too have ever done this mistake. So please fix it. Use plural rules with You.
Next, You must use Have with plural subjects. Use have with 'I'. we use the third form of the verb in this tense. It's quite intersting The third form of have is Had. Many times it will happen in your sentences that 'have' will be acting as a verb.
Instance- I am having lunch.
Now you will see that this sentence is in present countinue tense.
I am having lunch. If I have to make this same sentence in Present Perfect Tense then, Replacing eaten with had. I have had lunch.
This is how you would use have and had together. In the case of singular subjects- We will say Jack has had dinner.
First has is acting as a helping verb and had is verb's third form. Hence, you will always use the verb's third form in the present perfect tense.
